Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions in order to create an illusion of movement. It is an optical illusion of motion due to the phenomenon of persistence of vision, and can be created and demonstrated in a number of ways. The most common method of presenting animation is as a motion picture or video program, although several other forms of presenting animation also exist.

Tutorial 1: Motion Tweening
Motion tweens are a very common way to create movement with Flash because Flash does most of the work, making things easy for you. Motion tweens can also help minimize file size, particularly over frame-by-frame animation, since you have fewer assets in your documents.
For this tutorial, students will be asked to animated a bouncing ball. Use the template provided and refer to the video tutorial to assist you with this.
Tutorial 2: Shape Tweening
In shape tweening, you draw a vector shape at one specific frame in the Timeline, and change that shape or draw another shape at another specific frame. Adobe Flash then interpolates the intermediate shapes for the frames in between, creating the animation of one shape morphing into another.
Tutorial 3: Masking
For spotlight effects and transitions, use a mask layer to create a hole through which underlying layers are visible. A mask item can be a filled shape, a type object, an instance of a graphic symbol, or a movie clip. Group multiple layers under a single mask layer to create sophisticated effects.
For this tutorial, we will be creating a pair of binoculars that will peer into a back-ground photographic image.
Tutorial 4: Movie Clips
Movie Clip Symbols are basically movies within the main movie. Movie Clips have an independent timeline in that their timeline is not dependent on the main timeline; therefore their play head can move in sync or out of sync with the main play head.
Movie Clips can contain sounds, actions, and other symbols. A Movie Clip can also be placed inside other symbols such as for animated buttons.
